Refractory Sheet Metal Assembly

Refractory Sheet Metal Assemblies

This is the product of an intuition about how metal behaves and building on a budget

When you weld sheet metal, stresses build in the material, and then when you get it hot enough, the stresses bend the metal causing it to warp. Often that pulling force can break welds and otherwise  cause troublesome distortions. When setting out to design the details of this cyclonic combustor I decided to challenge the institutional conventions of my workplace and present a more easily fabricated, more durable sheet metal assembly method allowing for inexpensive materials and making methods to solve a tricky problem.
